The federal Access to Cannabis for Medical Purposes Regulations allow for reasonable access to cannabis for medical purposes for those who have been authorized to use cannabis for medical purposes by their health care practitioner. Cannabis (marijuana, marihuana) is not an approved therapeutic drug in Canada. There is however a growing body of peer-reviewed literature and international reviews regarding the potential therapeutic uses and harmful effects of cannabis and cannabinoids.

The SRNA has updated our information regarding Registered Nurses (RNs) assisting clients with, and/or administering, medical cannabis in all care settings.
